Ein Kerem and Kiryat Yovel: 1,000 homes, a hotel and public buildings

The Carmit Jerusalem plan, in which Shlomo Deri owns 7% of the land, seeks to change the designation of agricultural areas located between the Ein Kerem and Kiryat Yovel neighborhoods in favor of building approximately 1,000 homes, a hotel and public buildings.

The master plan is designated for urban development. After the amendments required by the district committee, the developers' plan, including Shlomo Deri, is to build around 1,000 housing units in towers of 25 to 32 floors, an 8-floor hotel in the southern part, schools, a community center and more public buildings. On the transportation side, since the neighborhood is far from the light rail axis on Hantaka Street and with a height difference of about 100 meters, a crossing was proposed that would include, among other things, 4 elevators.

Asaf Spanier of the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood residents' committee explained that the Kiryat Yovel area is undergoing large-scale urban renewal, with about 1,500 units currently under construction and an addition of about 4,000 apartments every five years. The Carmit plan adds to the urban renewal we see here, and it is not clear how prepared the neighborhoods are to absorb such a high number of residents and vehicles.

Attorney Uri Yamin of the office of attorney Yehuda Reva, who represents the developers, including Shlomo Deri, owner of about 7% of the land, said that the plan was already marked as residential 20 years ago in the 2000 master plan, and that the transportation issues received the green light from Ministry of Transport professionals regarding accessibility to the light rail
