New 42-Story Tower at the Entrance to Jerusalem
By Jacki Wiluzanski · · Updated · 3 min read

This is the giant tower planned for the entrance to the city, which will completely change Jerusalem's current skyline. The site itself will be very familiar to Jerusalemites and to anyone who comes to the city.
The tower will be 42 stories high and will be located on the site of the old Israel Post building, which will be demolished. At present, the building has been used temporarily for the past two years by the National Insurance Institute (whose building was also destroyed, and which was therefore forced to move to its current location).
At the center of the new building, a large municipal basketball court, 12 meters high, will be built as a project for the benefit of the public. The many spectators and trainees will be able to arrive with relative ease, at any hour of the day and even from outside the city, by public transportation, via the intercity heavy rail lines at the nearby Navon station and also via the light rail lines (the current Red Line and the future Green Line).
The project was designed by the Jerusalem architecture firm Yigal Levy, and will also include 2,500 square meters of commercial space, a 4,500-square-meter boutique business hotel, as well as apartments in a mix that also includes large apartments, given the historic rights that exist in the complex, together with smaller apartments that support an employment area.
In total there are 145 large homes and another 45 small apartments. The main part of the building is intended for offices and workspaces. A large multilevel underground parking garage with a total area of more than 18,000 square meters will also be built on the site.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon wants towers!
This tower continues the trend led by Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon of building towers throughout the city. This policy made headlines yesterday when the mayor made an unusual appearance at a discussion on approving another tower plan, and made clear in the discussion that he is in favor of towers and that this is his explicit policy. Leon stressed to those present that "whoever doesn't want it doesn't have to be in the coalition." The municipality, for its part, says that the mayor joined the discussion and spoke about his general policy, which the project in question "expresses, since the policy is about increasing the housing supply both in the neighborhoods and in the city center."
